We’re approaching mid January.  How are your resolutions or goal setting for 2017 going?

To be quite honest with you, I started mine a few weeks before we entered the New Year.  After a business trip to Las Vegas and running on that energy and excitement, I felt that there was no reason to wait.  I was ready, I was willing and I wanted to make things happen.

I came back from this trip, with a list of what I wanted my life to look like and how I wanted to feel.  I had things listed from being 100% completely debt free (home, car, credit cards, the kid’s college tuition and more) to being able to being able to put a fence around the back yard so that Teddy, our greyhound mix pup, could run free.  There were family vacations, fitting into my goal jeans, being a better friend and more on my list.  I didn’t have to just have a money goal or a goal relating to my business.  These goals I’ve set are about making my life the life that I love and about waking up with excitement because I’m living life the way I want.

While having a list was nice and it felt good to make all of these goals, I needed to put a plan into place.  Some goals, like the debt free goal, wouldn’t happen overnight or even within a few months.  This is a MAJOR goal and it’s going to take time with specific action steps to get there.

Here’s what I ended up doing.  I broke these goals up into 5 year, 3 year, 1 year and then quarterly and then decided what I wanted to work on first.  Once that was decided, I could then outline the steps to make it happen.

Every week, I get together and discuss where I’m at with my goals with my accountability partners.   Am I on track for meeting them?  What needs changed so that I do?  We share this in our call as well as offer advice and support if needed.

It would be easy to write things down, create a plan and then go through some of the motions and not really make it far.  I say that because I’ve done that. (Total transparency moment here.)  But for those of us who are interested in growth, there is no reason that we can’t achieve what ever we set our minds to.  We just have to roll our sleeves up and do the work.  We also, need to have someone help us be accountable so that when we hit a plateau or get off track, that we’ve got a support system in place to lean on.

This along with our “why”, the main reason we want something, can help us stay in motion.  I can honestly say that this combination has truly helped me reach some AWESOME things in life.
