It’s Springtime and I am thankful. I’m sure that you are too. Many of us have had some unusual and harsh winters. With a new season, comes many wonderful changes.
With the change of season, comes growth. And with growth, comes beauty but also pollen. And for some, that can mean a boatload of seasonal allergies.
If you’re like me, it’s common to have a pocket size tissue pack or a few napkins that you grabbed when you were out for lunch stuck in your purse for when that chain reaction of sneezes just so happens. I don’t know about you but being caught with out something when going into a sneeze attack is just plain embarrassing!
In a quest to make things better, I set out and searched this year for better allergy relief. This year for me has been extremely hard. Sneeze after sneeze, itchy, irritable eyes, hives and so much more. It’s definitely not a part of how I envisioned my life to be. And over the counter meds just aren’t cutting it. I had to make some changes at home too.
I thought though, that if you too, are suffering, that maybe sharing these tips, would help provide you some relief as they have done for me. Here are 5 Ways to Beat Seasonal Allergies.
- Leave your shoes at the door. Okay, this pic below BLEW my mind when one of my brothers posted it on facebook. This is back home in Eastern North Carolina and at his home. Check out the pollen that on his doormat. By taking your shoes off before you enter your home, you’re not tracking all of that indoors and keeping your home in a more contained condition. And, not only pollen but also all the dirt and grime too! (BTW, I feel like sneezing just looking at this!)
- Wash your hair before bed. It might be worth switching up your routine. If you’re constantly having difficulty going to bed because of all of the allergy symptoms you’re having, washing your hair might just do the trick. You’ll go to bed without all of the pollutants rubbing off on your pillow, which should help you, sleep better.
- Change your filters and only open windows/doors as needed. This was big for us. We actually have decided to invest in a better grade filter and change/clean them more often. Also, we no longer just open our doors/windows to let the breeze blow in. While it might feel nice for the time being, we had to make a decision as to what would feel better for the long term.
- Check your pollen count. While that might sound silly, it’s true. We often check the weather but pollen count can be important too. Pollen counts are usually highest between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Check your local weather station for information subject to your area.
- Dry your clothes in a clothes dryer, not on an outdoor line.Pollen can collect easily on clothing or bed linens left outside.
