Free to be Me!
By Laura Kelly-Pifer
I have to share this with you today. It’s been on my heart and it’s something that I’ve noticed happening a lot lately. Ready!?! It’s comparing ourselves to other people.
Let me be the first to tell you if you’ve never heard this before. You were built and designed to be you. What that means is simply this. There is no one else that is just like you. So please put those self-defeating thoughts away and know that it’s okay to just be you.
What made me want to discuss this more in depth is some of the posts that I’ve seen online and conversations that I’ve had with others. Here’s an example of how it times into fitness. You pick up a magazine and see a fit bodied person on the cover and you’re inspired to keep working out because you want to look like the model. She’s got the body that you want. You’re working hard, eating better but your body isn’t changing into what you desire it to be which is the body ofthe gal on the magazine cover. You get frustrated and upset and sometimes even wonder why the heck you’re doing all this when it’s not working.
But here’s the thing:
– You don’t know what that individual eats each day.
– You don’t know what exercise they are doing each day and how many hours they spend in the gym.
– You don’t know what struggles or successes they have had in life to get to where they are now.
– You don’t know how long it took them to achieve their results
– And, you don’t really know if that photo is modified or not.
You see, I’ve learned on my own journey that trying to compare myself to others wasn’t helpful. Instead, of trying to be just like someone else, I now only look at them for inspiration. My body wasn’t built to be a size 2. No matter how hard I’d work to get to that point, I was designed to be a girl with curves. It doesn’t mean that I give up on exercise or eating healthy and living a healthy lifestyle. It just means that I’ve learned to be me and continue to be the best that I can be. It’s a VERY freeing feeling once you allow yourself to love you for who you are.
With Love,
Laura
