It’s Okay to Cheat
By Laura Kelly-Pifer
Okay…inquiring minds want to know. When you saw the title of this post, what did you think? I ask that only because cheating has such a negative meaning to most people.
Today though, I want you to cheat and once a week. For those of you on those super strict diets who feel it is so uber restrictive and you just don’t know how much longer you can do it, I can tell you that having one cheat meal per week, might just change things for you. And really, this can apply to everyone, regardless of what diet you follow.
Now, I have to be honest and tell you because the word cheat sounds so negative, I tend to use “flex” instead. So, this week I want you to incorporate a flex meal into your plan.
Here’s how you can do it.
– Enjoy an evening out with your spouse or friends and use it then.
– Just want a bubble bath and a glass of wine and a cheese plate, enjoy it then.
– Choose a time where maybe you don’t have time to prepare a meal or want a meal off and then use it then.
– Special occasion like birthday, wedding or another event, use it then.
You get the idea.
The point of a flex meal is to help you maintain your cravings the rest of the week. Can I tell you that they totally will go away? Nope, they may not but you will certainly have better will power when you have your flex meal to look forward too.
So, you’re probably thinking now “Why flex meal verses flex day?” Here are my thoughts on this. I don’t typically do “flex days.” That is a whole day of eating whatever I want, when I want, throughout the day.
A few simple reasons why….
First, I feel like crap. Really, I do. I don’t do well like that. My body wants healthy food. I truly believe that you are what you eat. My skin looks better, I have more solid sleep, and my energy level is increased.
Secondly, I’m a binger. If I do it for a day, it might turn into more than a day. I need limits.
Lastly, if I were to do a flex day, I’d probably load up on a TON on junk and gain a zillion pounds. I say that because it ALWAYS happens if I do. I don’t know about you but I have worked hard for the results I have now. I don’t want to mess with something that’s working.
So, this week, ENJOY your flex meal without guilt. Be sure to share what you had on our wall. We’re here for you!
Wishing you good health!
