Let Freedom Ring

Have you ever asked yourself this question? “What do I want my life to look like?”
I did. It’s actually a question that one of my mentors, PJ McClure, Author of Flip that Switch, has asked me.
At that time, I wasn’t the living life that I wanted but one that fit someone else. I was going after someone elses dreams, goals and ambitions. They weren’t mine and I was becoming exhausted, irritable and unmotivated. That doesn’t lead to a very productive life, does it?
So, I had to create freedom for me and for my family. And, within asking myself a few more questions, I created a vision of how life should be for us. This included how I would live a healthy life.
I had friends who wanted to compete in body building competitions or who ate super “clean” and the same meal day after day. Neither one of those was me. I like variety and while looking extremely fit was important to me, it wasn’t realistic of what I could do. But I would push myself anyway. I was at that point, just feeling better from being sick for the last decade. I had to learn to give myself grace and work up to a point at being able to do more.
Here’s how you can work through your health goals like I did…
- What’s your goal? Be specific.
- Are you being realistic with the goals that you have set for yourself?
- Are there certain factors that might hold you back from reaching your goal? (For me, my arthritis limited my ability to do certain workouts.)
- If you do have certain factors that might hold you back, can they be modified?
- Do the goals I have fit with the way I want my life to look like? (Will you be happy eating a certain way for example?)
Work through those questions and modify your goals if you need. You can do this all throughout your life too. As I become healthier, the workouts I can do change and my goals change along with it. The key though is knowing that I have the freedom to live life the way I want too.
