What To Do When Life Throw You A Curve Ball

As I sit and write this, I’m actually icing my foot.  You’re probably thinking why.  So real quickly, I’ll tell you that I’ve been diagnosed with plantar fasciitis that doesn’t seem to want to go away.  It’s one of those things that is gradually healing but unfortunately, I’ve been thrown this “curve ball” and have to change the way that I do some things so that I can stay on track with my weight loss goal.  Am I happy about it?  No!  Is it related to my chronic pain conditions?  Maybe.  But, I can’t dwell on that.  I don’t know why it happened but I know that I can choose either to give up or keep moving forward.  I’ve chosen to move forward.  It might be at a slower pace that what I would like for it to be but it’s still progress.  What would you choose?

So, my question to you…..Do you have curveballs that are thrown your way?  Maybe it’s health related, maybe it’s with in your finances, maybe it’s friendships.  Regardless of what it is, know that there are things that you can do to continue to move forward even when it seems like you’ve suffered a setback.  I want to share with you a few things that help me with moving forward with my better health goals.  These things keep me on track when life hands me those unexpected curve balls.

1. Make a plan – It is imperative to have a plan in place BEFORE life becomes crazy.   Most times we know or “sense” that something is going on.  Whether we chose to acknowledge those things or not is a different story.  For me, I knew that I was having issues with my foot and knew that if I ignored it, it would get worse.  My plan for this was having a team of people I could count on for guidance and support to give me the information on how to treat this as well as listen and DO what they told me.  Is it easy?  Not always.  But, I know that by sticking as close to my plan as possible, I’m able to move further with reaching my goals.
2. Have a visual accountability –   I like crossing things off my list.  And by list, I mean a “To-Do” list.  When I workout, it’s crossed off.  When I drink Shakeology, it’s crossed-off.  I know that when I see these things crossed off that I am making progress, even when it seems like I’m not.  Daily, consistent activity does work.
3. Have a support system – When life becomes crazy, and it’s often that it does, it’s very easy to turn to food to try and escape and as way to cope. I know this first hand, I did it for years.  I know there were many a night where a bag of Doritos was my way of “fixing” things.  I want to tell you thought that having a support system in place beforehand can literally make or break your fitness plan. It’s important to have a friend or a group like my Facebook Power Starters where you can go and say that you are stressed and having a crappy day. Having people rally around you can give you the necessary strength needed to stay on track.
4. Have faith – I know that when things seem bad, it seems like it will never end.  It does feel like that sometimes but truly, the journey is not over.  When things seem at their worst, continue to keep moving forward.  Have faith that what you’re doing will work.

Life is going to continue to give you curve balls.  You can make a choice like I had to make….you can chose to stay where you are at or move forward.  I know that you have it inside you to move forward and live the life that God designed you to have.  By having a plan, a visual accountability, a support system, and a little faith, you are arming yourself with an arsenal of weapons to fight back and hit those balls directly out of the park.  You can do it!!!
