You might have heard of Ebates and wondered is it really worth the time?  I wanted to take some time and share with you my own experience so that you could have an educated opinion and decide if this would work for you.

Disclosure: There are some affiliate links below, but these are all products I highly recommend. I won’t put anything on this page that I haven’t verified and/or personally used.

What is Ebates

Ebates is a company that gives you cash back for shopping through their affiliate linked stores.  There are thousands of stores that offer discount or cash back when you shop online and sometimes even offline.  You can view a list of stores here.  We’ve saved not just on clothing and other merchandise but on travel as well.

When I first opened my account, back in 2009, I very seldom used Ebates for any of my online purchases.  I don’t think that I really understood the program and it’s value until earlier this year, when I learned at how my much I could get back in a rebate type form just from logging in and using their website on stuff that I was already planning on buying.

How does it work?

The process is simple.  You visit the Ebates website or app, search for the store you want to shop at, click the “shop now” button and then shop at that online store.  (Be sure to look before you click the “shop now” button as sometimes there are is a coupon code that allows you to save even more.).

Once you’ve made a purchase, you’ll get a percent back that will show up in your Ebates account.

These are the quarterly amounts that I’ve received thus far.

and as of this post, I have $10 already earned for the next payout.

Groupon, for example, is one online store that I use often.  I’ll start at Ebates, see what the percentage off is, if there are any additional coupons and then shop.

Bob and I once enjoyed a Craft Beer Tasting Flight for 2 for $4 after our Ebates cash back credited to our account.  It was a FUN time too.

Why would Ebates do this?

I know what you’re thinking….Why would a company give money away?

This is called Affiliate Marketing.  Ebates promotes certain stores.  Over 2,000 in fact.  When someone clicks on an Ebates link and makes a purchase, they receive a commission from said store.  They then split it with the consumer….which is us.

It’s a win-win for everyone involved.

How long does it take for me to get my rebate?

Credits to accounts take no longer than 7 days (I’ve personally never experienced this.) and payouts to PayPal or via check occur on a quarterly basis.

How to get started.

You’ll want to create a PayPal account if you don’t have one.  When you use this link, you’ll get a $5 credit for signing up.  I use this for way more than Ebates.  Most online purchases these days offer PayPal as a secure way to pay for things.

Next, create your Ebates account.  When you use my link, you’ll get a $10 credit allowing you to get a rebate next quarter.  YAY!

Download the Ebates Brower Extension.  This allows a pop up to appear when you visit an eligible store.  (This has really helped remind me to use my Ebates account first.)

Link your credit card.  This will allow you to earn cash back at the offline stores as your purchases can be verified.

A last few thoughts….

While getting cash back is cool, be sure to do your research and see if there are stores offering better deals possibly not on Ebates.

I’m all about saving money and while I’ve not made a fortune doing this, I can say that the money I’ve received since using Ebates for every day purchases has come in handy.  It’s nice to see a deposit in my account every quarter just for going through their website first.  I hope that you get to experience the same!

With Love,
