My Motivational Tool
By Laura Kelly-Pifer
People often say that motivation doesn’t last. Well, neither does bathing – that’s why we recommend it daily. – Zig Ziglar
A few years back when I decided to change my health, I knew that I needed to find a motivational tool that would help me in reaching my goals. There would be days that I would be tired, I didn’t have a lot of time, too stressed, or in pain and I needed something that would help PUSH me to stay on track, even when I wanted to give it all up.
What I’m going to share with you is so simple that anyone can do it. It’s no secret that I enjoy reading. One of my favorite things to do on the weekend before anyone is up is grab a cup of coffee and head out to my deck or curl up on my sofa with one of my favorite fitness magazines. I leaf through it and learn every time I open it up but what keeps me going back to it is the stories of people, just like you and me, that are working on themselves. Some folks have reached their goals while others are a work in progress. I needed to hear those testimonies to give me the motivation that what I was working for was worth the effort.
So, I began collecting the testimonies that I could relate too. People who had been sick, like me. Or people with little kids that were still able to make time to get a workout in. Or people who thought that it would never be possible and there was no hope yet still found a way. I grabbed a 3 ring binder, my 3-hole punch and started collecting these stories. I still do it to this day and when I need a boost, I go back to my binder and remind myself that I AM WORTH IT!
I like to add in other things too: quotes, recipes, even sample workouts. Anything that will help inspire me to keep going. So, I’m going to share with you a page from my binder so you can see what I do.
As you can see, it’s nothing fancy but it works. I encourage you to try making one for yourself. If you don’t have access to any health or fitness magazines, check out the testimonies I post on my facebook page. You can print those out and when you need a lift go to your binder and remind yourself that YOU ARE WORTH IT!!

Great blog Laura!
I have a book that is similar to that I’ve been keeping for 7 years. It is beaten and tattered and the pages are all falling out, but it really helps.
Love it!!
Great ideas!!!
