Take what you need!
By Laura Kelly-Pifer
Yesterday, I was getting my hair colored (yes, I will admit it…..I am not a natural redhead. :D) when something occurred to me. Maybe you’ve noticed it too when you were out and about, but what I saw is that almost every person who walked in, whether it was while I was there or at an earlier appointment I had been to, always seemed to be in a “funk” of some sort.
Now I have to tell you that one of my best friends styles my hair so sometimes I do stay longer than through my appointment because I LOVE to converse with people and get to know them . For me, it’s truly an honor to get to know someone. But, in talking to these folks, I learned that they were busy, stressed, overwhelmed and sometimes the simple pleasure of getting their hair done was just what they needed to turn their day around. And, unfortunately, I knew that feeling all too well; there were times that I needed it too.
So, I’ll ask this question….How many of you get up every morning and get ready for the day, get someone else (or more) ready for their day and then continue trying to get things done so that you can do it all again tomorrow? Be honest. There is no right or wrong answer here. We ALL have different lives yet there is still a lot of commonality between us all; we ALL do this in some form or fashion. Me included. But one thing that I’ve learned through all of this is that I HAVE to take the time daily, and not just every couple of weeks when I’m getting my hair done, to help me keep balance in my life.
I’ve found some pretty cool ways to do this. One of the things that I do for me is getting up and exercising each morning. It starts my day off on a positive note and I know that my body needs it along with healthy eating. The feeling after a workout is intoxicating! And, if throughout the day, I feel stressed, I’ll take a few minutes or more and go take a walk, sit out on my deck enjoying the fresh air while reading a book or call a friend. I even recently started looking for hobbies. I know that when I take that break, it’s a re-newel of energy that keeps me going. I take what I need for me…..
So, my point is that I encourage you to find something that is just for YOU. Take 10 minutes out of your day today and find your re-newel of self. Let me know what you’re doing on my facebook page. Don’t just wait for the hair appointment but do it each and every day.

Thanks so much! I enjoy writing it. Glad to have you stop by Juliet!
Lost the blog post Laura and the concept of the blog itself! Great message of taking those moments to get that balance. I of course also love the daily exercise and also try to spend a little time reading in The Bible. I try to at least read a chapter from the book of Proverbs each day that corresponds to that day on the calendar since it has 31 chapters. Great wisdom for daily living there. Thanks very much for the invitation to view the blog. I really like your writing style and the message. Rob
Thanks Rob! I too read from the Bible but I need to do a better job at doing so. LOVE the idea about reading from the Book of Proverbs each day. I will have to to do that!
