Teamwork: The Foundation of my home!
By Laura Kelly-Pifer
This week marked this first FULL week that my girls have been on summer break. It’s been quite an adjustment. The last few months have been so busy for us! Bailey has been in involved with soccer in another school district and Morgan completed another year of dance. While those two events were ending, practice for girl’s softball started. And, Bailey started Driver’s Ed. Needless to say, we were on the road 6 nights per week and they kept Bob and me on our toes. But, with a little TEAMWORK we’ve been able to get A LOT of things accomplished.
My schedule tends to be a little crazy at times. There are things to be done in my business, my household chores that need completed, help with homework (they have summer projects that are still required of them) and being available to take the girls where they need to go. And Bob has very long workdays so he helps where he can. I’m sure that many of you have similar schedules or situations.
I’ve really tried to streamline things and make them as easy as I can for us. I enjoy getting online and using pinterest. Do you use it? I came across this cleaning schedule and LOVE IT!
I really do try and stick to it and sometimes it does take me a little longer than the 30 minutes as indicated in the picture. But, doing a little each day and then having the free time on the weekends to spend with family and friends and then to forget about the housework ROCKS!
The girls too, have their own chore lists. At their ages, Bob and I felt that there were things that they could help with. We have a dog, 2 cats and 2 fish so they help out with them. They also have to make sure the dishes are washed, dried and put away, the floors are swept up each day and they are responsible for keeping their rooms clean and that they’ve picked up after themselves throughout the house. They’ve even started helping with meals and laundry on a regular basis. Every bit helps!! And, they are learning the skills to be able to “keep” their own home everyday.
With all of this TEAMWORK, we’ve been able to reward ourselves with time off. It’s so liberating knowing that we’re not being rushed to “get things done.” Our schedule isn’t perfect by any means; it has to be changed from time to time to fit what we have going on. I like though that we’re working together to get things done.
Do you and your family work together as a team? What chores do you kids do? I’d love for you to post your comments and let me know.
