How I Turned A Dream Into Reality

By Laura Kelly-Pifer

It’s the end of the year and I’m doing some reflecting.  As I sit back and review the last year, I’m reminded that it wasn’t that long ago that I turned my dream into reality.

Let me share my story with you.

Just 5 years ago, I took a leap of faith and began investing in myself.  I was tired of feeling overwhelmed, exhausted, overweight and more, I knew that I had to do something different.  I was barely keeping up in the “rat race” of life and I was living a life that wasn’t healthy, in a variety of ways.  I knew that God had designed a plan for me but needed more direction and clarity and so my journey began.

A friend had told me about an infommercial that she had seen on television.  It was a workout program that could be completed in as little as 10 minutes per day.  As a busy mom, it was right up my alley…that’s about all I could do too because of my Rheumotoid Arthritis and Fibromylagia.  After seeing some noticeable results in just the first few weeks, I learned that I could help others get into shape too.  I could be their cheerleader and I thought…what a great way to pay it forward.

In the beginning, I wasn’t looking for more work.  I already was working a 40 hour work week outside our home and my girls kept me quite busy.   That all changed when a few years later, my Mom was diagnosed with Stage 3 Breast Cancer and I had to take an emergency trip back home to North Carolina that I knew I had to make a decision.  My mom needed my help, my own health was compromised because of my chronic illnesses, my girls were growing up with both their parents working all the time and Bob and I were missing out on so much because we had little time for ourselves or each other.  I was aching for things to be different.

Using the skills I had developed in the corporate world, I took on my first client as a Virtual Assistant while still working full time and also as a fitness coach.  I began building my business in my off time.  My dream of being home to be with my girls was coming true.  Eventually, I decided to quit my full time job and begin working from home.  The time that I get with my girls is priceless!

Once I began turning my dream into a reality, it gave me the freedom to start living the life I wanted.  What was great is that all areas of my life were changing.  It wasn’t overnight but it was happening with each and every passing day.  One of the most important was my health.  I lost 20 pounds and gradually the aches, the pains, the countless mornings where I could barely move decreased.  By December 2011, I was completely off all of my medication.  I was learning the skills necessary to say good-bye to the toxic life I had been living because I was not only moving and feeding my body with healthy things but also feeding my mind with the right stuff too.

I’ll be honest and tell you that the blood, the sweat and the tears that I shed to get to this point in my life were well worth it.  I can say now that my relationships are better, I am living the life I love, I’m no longer frustrated, tired, overwhelmed and more.

Your dreams can become reality.  I’m proof that it’s possible.  All that I ask is that you BELIEVE in yourself and do your best!  It’s there within you.

With Love,
