Watermelon Agua Fresca Recipe

By Laura Kelly-Pifer

I LOVE water but sometimes, I want something different.  I make my own soda water using a my Soda Stream and add a little lime or lemon juice to it.  Then, there are times that I’ll make flavored water using a variety of fruit.  I’ve added peaches, raspberries, oranges and english cucumbers in mine as well as lots of others fruit combinations  It’s really easy to do and only takes about 30 minutes in the fridge to steep.  If you’re wanting to jazz up your water, I encourage you to try it out.  Flavored water is really good, low calorie and healthy for you!

So, that brings me to today’s recipe that I’m sharing with you.

I had posted a really tasty, water recipe on my facebook page and a friend had mentioned that I should try Watermelon Water.   I decided to give it a try, especially since I had half a watermelon that needed to be used up.  Now this one is quite different from what I’ve shared before and it’s quite good.  I played around with the recipe I found online and here is what I came up with.  ENJOY!

Watermelon Agua Fresca Recipe

Yields: 4 servings
Prep time: 5 min

Ingredients:

4 cups cold water
4 cups watermelon (rind removed), seeded and chopped
4 tablespoons agave***
1 lime, squeezed (no more than 2 tablespoons)
Ice cubes or crushed ice (optional)

Choose a watermelon  that is firm, heavy for its size, free of bruises and cuts and creamy yellow on the side that sat on the ground as it grew.  Cut watermelon can be stored, covered, in refrigerator for 3 to 4 days.

** The amount of sweetener needed will vary depending on the sweetness of the fruit you are using. Some may not require any at all.

Preparation:

Cut the watermelon into roughly 1-inch cubes.

In a blender combine water, watermelon, agave, and lime juice until smooth.

Pour mixture through a strainer into a pitcher, forcing through most of the pulp. Chill at least 30 minutes before serving. Serve with or without ice cubes.

This recipe can be altered if you have other fruits you want to use, just prepare them accordingly, removing seeds or skins and cutting into small pieces if necessary.

With Love,

Laura
