Why “diet” Isn’t Always A Good Thing
By Laura Kelly-Pifer
Many people replace regular products with diet products with the hopes of losing weight. Unfortunately, this isn’t always the case and studies are showing that artificial sweeteners can actually cause weight gain. This is just one reason why “diet” isn’t always a good thing.
Instead of a decreased appetite, these man made sweeteners can increase appetite and cravings for sweet food. This might be because the insulin secreted causes an anticipation that sugar will appear in the blood. And, while the studies performed indicate that this is what probably happens, it really is unclear. Nevertheless, even if weight loss/gain is not a factor, consuming artificial sweeteners can be harmful for your health. Please read on.
Physicians are noting that artificial sweeteners may cause: Headaches, fibromyalgia, anxiety, memory loss, arthritis, abdominal pain, nausea, depression, heart palpitations, irritable bowel syndrome, seizures, neurological disorders, vision problems, brain tumors and weight gain.
If you’re currently using these sweeteners, I recommend taking a look at what you’re consuming and evaluate it to see if it is worth the risk. In today’s age, there are tons of other options with far less risks involved. Some include pure honey, agave, pure maple syrup to name a few. There are even more out there. Do your homework to find what tastes best and fit your needs.
